Wings & Water is a faith-based outdoor ministry venue for inner city children. Our mission is, “To allow today’s youth to experience the words and blessings of our Creator in the setting of His creation.”
There is something healing about being in nature. Something refreshing for the soul. Wings & Water provides the time and place for that peace to touch the lives of some of Alabama’s most needy children, and offers the opportunity for them to get away from the noise and breakneck pace of life, and a chance to just –– slow –– down.
Our first kids’ event was held in 2015 with over 30 kids and adults spending the day with us. This day was not only a “first” for us, but it also represented the first time that many of these children had ever gotten to try their hand at archery, be on the water in a paddleboat or to simply spend time in the
great outdoors. The exuberant shouts of these first-time fishermen catching 8 lb. bass bounced through the trees and their joyful laughter ricocheted into our hearts.
Although the 100+acre campus only produces invitation-only events several times a year, pre-scheduled one day events are booked throughout the year, as available. Of course, emphasis is put on safety for all events, so smaller-sized groups (10-12 adults or 15-20 youth) is the ideal maximum attendance in order to assure proper supervision and to engage the group in true quality time.
These special groups of inner city children come to us via direct referrals and are booked after an interview process with an oversight committee. It is our pleasure, our privilege and our honor to serve them through our day camps and special events.
